Family Fun in the Sun
Need ideas for unique outdoor family fun? June just happens to claim some unique days and events…
Go Fishing Day is June 18. Channel your inner Andy and Opie Taylor, grab a rod, and hit your favorite fishing hole with your kids. Don’t know a trout from a catfish? Lake Isabella’s Family Fishing Center, in addition to rangers and naturalists from other parks in the Hamilton County Park District, is a good place to start in your search for old-timey fun.
- Paddlefest begins June 21 at Coney Island with the Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo (which is free!) and continues with the Ohio River Music & Outdoor Festival on Saturday. The actual paddle races are on Sunday. If your kids have only experienced the mighty Ohio River from the car on a bridge, this is the place to get up close and personal to the river that gives Cincinnati our identity.
The Great American Backyard Campout is June 23. The National Wildlife Foundation has an entire website dedicated to helping your family explore the outdoors…under the stars. You can register to be officially involved, or simply ask the neighbor to pitch a tent in the backyard, catch fireflies, and eat s’mores.
If the dates don’t work with your schedule, remember, these activities can be a hit all summer long!
